Could not be better said. For my wife and I we nearly went broke when we moved states and lost our medicaid with almost the exact same medical needs as your potatoe. We have it again and our life is livable and our son is improving. The state(s) are now faced with immense budget cuts and this seems to be an area of focus to cut because most people don't understand. Some has this thought that kids are just burdens during travel but for me providing them with their interest helps a lot in controlling them.

I am also cursed when it comes to travel. I just love to travel. Through traveling I get the chance to relax, unwind, and most of all appreciate the wonders of the world. Every year I always set a date for it and it is just fulfilling on my part to do what I love doing. Most of the time I travel alone and it turned me into an independent woman.

As a NICU nurse I listen to beeps all day long. Some mean something important, some mean a minor adjustment is required, nothing more. My ears and my eyes let me know when something needs my attention now, and I know what I will do next.

It must be so hard for the parents to worry about the beeps, not just for their baby but for the other babies in the room. Parents worry that the nurses might miss something. And we worry about that possibility also.

I had three newborns in the hospital (twin premies and one full-term that was just very, very, very ill) and know those horrible beeps. I hate a love-hate relationship with them. I liked knowing what was going on, but it was extremely scary.

Definitely no complaints from this corner of the world. We are a military family, the government pays for our healthcare. I hear alot of people complaining that not 100% of our dental care is covered, or vision, etc. This post definitely makes me count my blessings- we have three children, and I am SCARED TO DEATH to think of what would happen if we had to provide medical care for them on our own, if the military wasn't here for us. I know we would scrape and pinch to pay it, but it give me the willies to think about it! So preach on, girl! :)

The breakdown you provide here is pretty staggering and should probably be sent to/forwarded to/thrown in the faces of the shitheads that are lobbying to decrease funding to governmental programs like Medicaid. If they just looked at the numbers...there is no argument.

Preach on, sister! The healthcare in this country baffles me though. I've been diagnosed as terminal and have been in a wheelchair for three years and yet I don't qualify here in Louisiana for diability. However, they think I'll qualify because I have PTSD. (rape) Does that make any sense at all to you?

I need to read your blog more often, girl. I miss seeing pictures of your little potato! Come by my blog and check out how big Vee has gotten. She's only three weeks shy of her first birthday! I am so blessed that the Lord has allowed me to live long enough to watch her first year. She even calls me by name. Man, I love that kid!

Wow. Just, wow. I guess I've never given much thought to Medicaid. I'm fortunate in that I haven't had to. I always sort of thought it was a good thing, but I've never heard it articulated before like this, from a real person dealing with the system.

I am so glad the system is working for you so you can focus on your baby without quite so many worries.

Thank you Sarah! I have had so much trouble explaining to people that ANYONE (except the truly obscenely weatlhy) can find themselves in a situation where medicaid would be necessary. I'm glad you're speaking out, because none of the usual arguments against government healthcare fit you guys. You're not lazy. You're not milking the system, trying to get away with one handout after another. You're people working as hard as you can who need a larger helping hand UP than some others through no fault of your own, but because of circumstances that can happen to any single one of us, or to anyone else who is blessed with a baby like Potato.

Amen sista! It is really amazing when you break out all the costs like that. Perron's therapist always talks about how Medicaid is such a necessity for so many of the children that she takes care of. Hubs and I make a good deal of money, but we certainly could not afford $100,000 a year in medical expenses. Very few could!
