The One With the 80s Hair

I have never desired to be a pop star.  A singer-songwriter maybe.  But not a pop star.

For one, I don't even really enjoy pop music.  Give me emo indie guitar anyday.  But Kelly Clarkson?  No WAY.  (Ok, well there is one Kelly Clarkson song any decent Glee fan will download, but other than that...)

So when Girl Talk Thursday posed the question about being a pop star, I really REALLY had to think.  Who would I be if I could?

I would be Jem.

Not Jem the singer-songwriter either.

Jem the 80's cartoon rockstar, of Jem and the Holograms.  Jem, the most truly outrageous rocker ever.

First of all, she had incredible style that I envied. Light-up earrings.  Big bouffant pink hair, wrap dresses in various animal prints.  And look at the hunk in the left corner that she bagged.  Total dreaminess.

Secondly, she and I are both proficient in the white girl dance.

And lastly, we both tend to forget who we are.  I mean, sometimes I don't even remember what my name is when I am signing a check.  And Jem?  Well her theme song lyrics were:

Jem is my name
No one else is the same
Jem is my name

If you need to repeat the mantra that "____ is my name," then I think you might be drinking a bit too much

But regardless of the drinking, the partying, and the total disregard for popular fashion, I loved Jem.  I had all of her tapes.  I had the dolls, I had the dresses.  And if I could be anyone?  I would totally be her.
