The One In Which I Change the Alphabet

April 8, 2010 |
MamaKat's Writing Challenge this week has us thinking about the current English alphabet.  Why 26?  Well, that I am unsure of.

This I am sure of.  We don't need the letter "P."

In arabic, there is no "p" sound.  Your parents are Baba and Mama.  You order bizza from the Bizza Hut.  And you shop at the Biggly Wiggly (and yes, on the desert highway in Amman, one of our favorite rest stops was the store actually named Biggly Wiggly.  I'm not making that up).

I think that the "p" sound is highly overrated.  What can we do with "p" that we can't just do with "b"?

I can plant betunias in my yard.

I could put butter on my bobbyseed bagel, my baked botato and snap beas.

I write with a bencil and ben on a biece of baber.

It might get confusing when I teach Potato how to boo boo in the botty.  He might expect me to put a bandaid on it.

Ok, nevermind.  26 letters is fine.
